Seminarian Brain Bergkamp went missing in the Arkansas River on Saturday 9th July while trying to save a woman. They were on the Arkansas River, kayaking with four other people when they lost control.
Three people made it to shore but Brain went back for the fourth. He removed his life vest and gave it to the woman, saving her.
Speaking at a Memorial Mass attended by 3 Bishops, many Priests, deacons and over one thousand faithfuls at the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception, Bishop Carl Kemme, of the Catholic Diocese of Wichita told stories of Brain’s loyalty. “He may not have been a Priest, but lived and died in the most priestly way giving his life for others” said Kemme.
Brain was studying for the priesthood at the St. Mary’s Seminary in Emmitsburg, Maryland.
